Wildfire damage isn’t just a threat during peak seasons. Insurance companies may need to prepare more to handle wildfire claims that arise throughout the year.

Some residents may have to accept the fact that they live with a year-round wildfire risk. Dave Jones, California’s Insurance Commissioner, recently said exactly that in a press release, calling residents to take action to reduce the impact of possible disasters. In January, Jones called for better general access to insurance as well.

According to Insurance Journal, recent fires have led to 5,600 claims filed for property, including residences. As many as 1,300 homes were destroyed, with $1 billion in damages resulting from multiple fires.
