California’s Mineral Fire one of several 2016 summer blazes

Summer often means wildfire activity for California, and 2016 has so far proved no exception. NPR reported on the "Mineral Fire," just one of the fires currently active and targeted by the local firefighter authorities.

While the source said the flames were 65 percent contained as of August 10, the official Cal Fire website said otherwise just two days later: according to this source, just 35 percent of the fire was contained by Friday morning.

The fire had also burned 7,050 acres and destroyed just two structures, including one residence and one outbuilding. Zero structures were "threatened" at the time of writing. The main area of destruction for the fire was west of Coalinga, in Fresno County. The cause is currently under investigation.

"Just 35 percent of the fire was contained by Friday morning."

Nearby, in Monterey County, the state also has to contend with the far larger Soberanes Fire. By 7:00 AM on Aug. 12, this fire had destroyed 57 homes and threatened 410 structures. Further north, in Yolo County, is the territory of the Cold Fire, which destroyed two structures over 5,731 acres of land. As of Aug. 11 it was 99 percent contained.

The Associated Press said that the containment effort was generally increasing. One unnamed fire had "containment lines around 70 percent," the source said, and temperatures across the state were believed to reach higher degrees than usual.

Wildfires may bring serious property damage and require contents services sooner, rather than later. These professionals have to be responsive and comprehensive to address all of the possible losses a home faces. Dangerous locations won't necessarily show themselves to be potential threats until too late, in which case the insurance company needs to have ties to workers best-suited for the job.
