Hurricane Paul downgraded to a tropical storm

Hurricanes, tornadoes and other severe weather events often bring significant damage to the properties of local residents and business owners. Insurers are left with a high amount of claims processing work, while claims outsourcing companies help aid the effort to help the victims.

A part of Baja California has been put on tropical storm watch as Hurricane Paul gains strength off of Mexico's coast, according to the Associated Press. The winds of this hurricane had speeds as high as 80 miles per hour, based on the findings of the National Hurricane Center.

Some weakening took place yesterday as the hurricane moved forward to the Baja peninsula at 9 miles per hour. Paul moved away from a stretch of land and proceeded northward, according to a separate Associated Press article. As the hurricane proceeded north, it quickly lost strength and is now being classified as a tropical storm, since its winds lost speed and are now down to 60 miles per hour.

It is predicted that the tropical storm may head out to the Vizcaino Desert peninsula and then slowly move its way back out to sea on Wednesday. A tropical storm watch has also been instituted in western California.

Tropical Storm Rafael also gained strength in the Atlantic and is expected to reach hurricane status within the following day. Rafael is centered near San Juan and Puerto Rico and has winds reaching 70 miles per hour.

Heavy rains formed near the Baja peninsula, but one man walking on a beach with his wife did not seem worried, according to Reuters.

"It's only rain falling from the clouds," Anthony Curtis of San Diego told the news source. "The hotel told us not to worry."

Despite this optimism, floods can cause heavy damage to residences. Insurers would be wise to partake in claims outsourcing services in such scenarios.
