Parts of Wisconsin under state of emergency from floods

Residents in southern Wisconsin are dealing with their fifth day of rain in a row. Towns expect many homeowners to contact their insurance companies to provide relief for their losses after the storm ends later this week. During times when insurance claims processing are highly robust, companies need additional assistance to complete reports.

Wednesday's storm brought three to five inches on top of the six to 10 inches many communities have already seen. After Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker visited Grant, Vernon, Columbia and four other counties heavily affected by the storm, declaring a state of emergency for these part of the states.

?The La Cross Tribune stated that Boscobel, a small community in Grant County was already at 13 inches of rain since Tuesday, already has 640 homes that will need repairs. Cost for damages is currently $5 million dollars.

It will take a few days for water levels in this area to recede because Boscobel sits on the Wisconsin River, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. Until emergency funds are available, Walker asked the National Guard and other states to provide assistance. Flash flooding throughout southern Wisconsin closed local roads and highways.

Redirecting traffic from these areas will prevent anyone's chances of being stranded or hurt from deep waters.

"Never try to cross flood waters in your vehicle or on foot," the National Weather Service said. "The flood waters are usually deeper than they appear."
