The growth of Invest 99L: From depression to possible hurricane

Meteorologists have watched an Atlantic storm system develop from a low-pressure system into a more imposing hurricane. As the conditions change, the understanding of what insurance adjusters need to do in the wake of this storm might also evolve. Most recently this has been the trajectory of Invest 99L, which is now on its way to a new status as Hurricane Hermine.

There have been several steps in this system's growth. On August 28, the Weather Channel reported that 99L had shifted into Tropical Storm Nine and was set to change again into a tropical storm. This it did, sure enough, becoming Tropical Storm Hermine.

Since then, it has moved back and forth between this status and a full hurricane, eventually making landfall in Florida. It is reportedly the first hurricane of its kind to make landfall in Florida since 2005. As of Friday, Hermine had moved past the Sunshine State but was still posing possible threats to the East Coast.

"As of Friday, Hermine had moved past the Sunshine State."

In a statement on September 2, Florida Governor Rick Scott described some of the damage left behind afterward.

"Life-threatening coastal flooding and rip currents will continue and we must all remain vigilant," the Governor said in a statement. "There will be a lot of debris, including uprooted trees and fallen limbs. We expect to see downed traffic lights, road signs and power lines that must be avoided. We also expect to have significant amounts of flood water along coastal and inland areas."

After a storm strikes, insurance companies may need additional claims adjusting staff to help manage high claim volumes. When a storm moves between phases, it could pose different threat levels to regions in its path. BrightClaim can provide adjusters who will do high quality work and provide exceptional service to policyholders.
